Jazz je viac ako hudba. Jazz je životný pocit, jazz je život so všetkými jeho stránkami. Jazz vyjadruje všetko: lásku, náklonnosť, boj, zlobu, jemnosť, smútok, nádej. Ten kto hrá jazz, uniká pred týmto svetom – tak, aby sa doň mohol zase vrátiť a tlmočiť sám seba i obšťastniť publikum. Na to, aby sme dokázali opticky a akusticky zachytiť a zdokumentovať veľké momenty jazzu, tvorivého procesu tohto veľkého umenia, je treba ďalšieho umenia – fotografie a zvukovej dokumentácie. Oboje ovláda Patrick Španko skvelým spôsobom. Už dlhé roky produkuje skvelé rozhlasové programy a sprostredkúva jazz širokému publiku. Španko i Ertl sú zároveň požehnaní takým zrakom a zmyslom pre „timing“, že spúšť svojho aparátu stisnú vždy v tú pravú chvíľu. Tak vznikajú fotografie najvyššej intenzity, ktoré jazz zviditeľňujú, vďaka tomu môžeme jazz počúvať aj očami. Vďaka ich tvorbe môžeme – tak ako aj v Patrickových reláciách – jazz nielen počúvať, ale aj hlboko duševne vnímať.

Jazz is more than music. Jazz ist Lebensgefühl, Jazz ist Leben mit all seinen Facetten. Jazz drückt alles aus: Liebe, Zuneigung, Kampf, Wut, Zärtlichkeit, Trauer, Hoffnung. Wer Jazz spielt entrückt dieser Welt um auf diese zurück zu kehren und damit sich mitgeteilt und die Hörer beglückt zu haben. Um die großen Momente des Jazz, dieses Entstehungsprozesses großer Kunst, optisch und akustisch einfangen zu können, zu bannen und zu dokumentieren, braucht es die Kunst des Fotografierens und der Tondokumentation. Beides beherrscht Patrick Spanko auf wunderbare Weise. Seit vielen Jahren produziert er hervorragende Rundfunksendungen und vermittelt dabei Jazz an ein großes Publikum. Spanko und Ertl sind aber auch mit Augen und einem Timing gesegnet, das ihnen immer im richtigen Augenblick den Auslöser ihrer Kamera drücken lässt. So entstehen Fotos größter Intensität, die Jazz gleichsam sichtbar machen, dazu führen, dass Jazz mit den Augen gehört werden kann. Dank ihrer kreativen Bestrebungen kann Jazz, sowie in Patricks Sendungen, nicht nur gehört sondern auch mit tiefster Seele empfunden werden.

Jazz is more than just music. Jazz is the attitude to life, jazz is life with all its aspects. Jazz can express anything: love, affection, battle, evil, tenderness, sadness, hope. If you play jazz you escape from this world to come back, express yourself and to make the audience happy. To capture and seize great moments of jazz, creative process of this great art in optical and acoustic way, one has to take advantage of another two arts – photography and audio documentation. Both are mastered by Patrick Španko in a brilliant way. He has been producing great broadcasts for a couple of years and conveys jazz music to broad audience in this way. Španko and Ertl are also blessed with the feeling for timing because they take a shot at just the right time. Photographs of highest intensity showing jazz are created in this way. This allows us to listen to jazz also with eyes. Due to their artistic efforts we have the opportunity, as well as
Patrick’s broadcasts, not only to listen to jazz but also to perceive it in the deepness of our soul.
